A MESSAGE FROM Tyler Ferraro for JCK
I started running at a time when so many aspects of my life seemed out of my control. My mental health was not doing well and I was desperate for something to do that I can look at and be proud of myself for doing. So, I just started running. I quickly learned that the hardest part of running is the two minutes before you start running. When that little voice tells you it's too cold, or dark, or hot, or I'm tired, or I'll do it another day. I had to silence that thought and just run. That's when I started to realize: If I can silence that negative thought, maybe I can work on silencing the other negative thoughts that run through my mind. As someone that's battled with my mental health for years, nothing calmed my head and cleared my mind more than running has which is why I'm so thrilled to run with the JCK Foundation. Their commitment to education on mental health issues aligns directly with my commitment of ending the stigma and being vocal about mental health in order to improve the conversation surrounding it. Growing up, I wasn't aware of the signs that were staring me in the face. If an organization like JCK had talked to my school, maybe I would have been more aware which is why what the foundation does is so important. The JCK Foundation has reached out to over 24,000 students and offer speaking sessions with teachers and parents as well.
Thank you for considering a donation to the JCK Foundation and supporting me in the run of a lifetime.
And, while this is all about running, this is also not about running.
