Of Home, Family and Future, Inc. (“OHFF”) is a New
York City based 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide
comprehensive and highly customized support to help domestic violence survivors
and college bound youth in foster care succeed beyond their circumstances.
Our Programs
The Educational Mentoring Program (“EMP”) provides
college-bound youth who are experiencing New York City’s foster care system,
with the financial support, essential resources, and caring personal guidance
necessary for success at a critical point on their path to independence. EMP students
are all paired one-on-one with an adult mentor who volunteers to establish a
consistent, nurturing relationship with him/her/them for up to 5 years of
college. These one-on-one relationships frequently become some of the most
important connections in our students’ lives as they navigate the challenges of
college, as well as post-graduation. EMP students also receive stipends to
cover education-related expenses, such as textbooks, computers, mobile phone
service, clothing, food and transportation. As each student’s needs are unique,
EMP stipends can be tailored to fund things such as supplies for specific
degree programs (e.g. - drafting tables, lab coats, art supplies, etc.), the
costs associated with studying abroad or mental health support. Nationally,
only 2-6% of foster youth graduate from 2 or 4 years colleges, but
approximately 60% of EMP students graduate from 4-year colleges. National
studies have also documented that roughly 50% of youth leaving foster care are
unemployed with the same percent experiencing homelessness within 18 months of
leaving foster care – but over 90% of EMP students find employment within one
year of graduation and no EMP graduates have experienced homelessness.
The Transformation Squared program serves domestic
violence survivors, many of whom have children under the age of 21. We focus on providing professional
development to enable our clients to gain a more advanced entry point into a
career, which can lead to real economic independence. Our clients gain work experience
and job networking opportunities through 12-week internships, with career track
employers. They also learn how to build monthly budgets, and are equipped
with both computers and grants to cover expenses like transportation,
professional attire, course materials, childcare and housing transition
assistance. The goal is to provide the
training and resources our clients need to build stable lives, economically
viable families and break the abuse cycle. Approximately 67% of Transformation
Squared graduates secure career path employment within 7 months post graduation.
