A few years ago, I went out for a run. I kept running and never looked back.
Along the way, I raised funds for charities and for causes
that are important to me.
Running has never just been about the finish time. I knew
that if I were to chase time and time alone, I would have lost from the very
beginning.
I run because it is through this sport that I find hope most
abundantly. I run because this sport teaches me to keep going--even as the sun
beats down relentlessly. Even when my clothes are soaked
with rain and stiff with frozen sweat. Even when there is little left in the tank to give.
Even in the face of grief, anxiety, frustration, doubt, disappointment, and disbelief.
Even through silence. Even when misunderstood.
Additionally, I run to promote programs that foster
inclusivity, mental well-being, and confidence among youth. I run to fund
scholarships and treatment programs for children battling cancer. I run for LGBTQ+ kids who might not
see themselves as strong, or fast, or capable, or loved. I run to reconnect
with my family and to create new memories with the people I love. I run in memory of loved ones gone too soon.
At the 2026 New York City Marathon, I will be running to
represent my Chinese Malaysian heritage and to amplify the mission of CFMAC and
the good it has contributed to the Asian and New York City communities.
I’ve come a long way, in part because of you. I hope you will
consider supporting this fundraiser. Your contribution will not only send me on
a journey of self-discovery, improvement, and hope--it will also help CFMAC
continue its mission of sharing Chinese culture with the world.
