A MESSAGE FROM Laura's NYC Marathon Fundraising Page
On December 16, 2025 my life changed. My best friend, my confidant, Christina Chambers, was killed in a murder-suicide by her husband. It was sudden, unexpected and life altering. She leaves behind a 3 year old son.
This year, I'm running my first marathon in her memory. Why run a marathon? Christina loved to run (and she was very good at it). She ran track in college at UAB and continued her love of running through adulthood. She had a dream of completing the 7 World Marathon Majors, but only had the chance to finish four of them before her life was taken. One of the four she ran was the New York City Marathon. So I'll lace up and run the same streets she did. It's uncharted territory for me, but I know she'll be there every step of the way.
I've teamed up with 'Sanctuary For Families' - a charity in NYC that supports victims of domestic violence and their children. They provide shelter, counseling services, education opportunities and hope to victims who are escaping their abusers. It's a cause that is now deeply personal. To be able to run - I need your help to raise $4,000 for Sanctuary for Families. No donation is too small.
Since Christina can't run these miles - I'm running them for her (albeit much, much slower).
