About five years ago, I nearly jumped off a balcony— and I've had suicidal thoughts more times than I can count. I know first hand how hopeless you can be in the midst of suffering.
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10 to 34.
Pain has a way of convincing us it will last forever. When we're suffering, we're short-sighted. We forget that peace is possible, and that we certainly will feel okay again. Even if it takes a little more time than we thought.
As a NAMI ambassador, I'm running the New York Marathon to raise awareness and funds for NAMI-NYC, which provides free mental health support, education, and advocacy.
If you or someone you know is thinking of taking your own life: call or text 988, reach out to a friend. I'm with you — and love is worth living for.
You can also contact the NAMI-NYC Helpline at 212-684-3264 or helpline@naminyc.org. You are not alone, your pain is not forever, and love is worth living for.
