A MESSAGE FROM Immanuel's Fundraising Page
This November, I am running the New York City Marathon to raise funds in support of Legal Services NYC (LSNYC).
I was first introduced to LSNYC through Weil's pro bono work and was immediately drawn to their mission of providing justice and a life in dignity to New Yorkers in need. As an example, I recently worked with the LSNYC to help a young New Yorker become accepted for food stamps and cash assistance.
LSNYC's mission resonates with me so deeply, as I myself was confronted at an early age with the harsh truth that what very often stands between a life of dignity and a life of struggle is access to effective legal representation. If this is true in Europe, where I was born and raised, it is even more true in the United States, a country that has no ceiling for what you can achieve, but, far too often, also no floor to catch you when you fall.
Your donation will help LSNYC fight evictions and maintain homeownership, allow people to access life-saving public benefits, provide stability and safety to immigrants fleeing persecution, and protect the rights and safety of the most vulnerable among us.
I hope I have convinced you to support LSNYC's mission, and if so, thank you for your support! Your donation will make a difference in the lives of New Yorkers in need. Should you decide to donate, please feel free to list a song that you want me to put into my race day playlist. If you are interested, you can follow my training here.
About LSNYC: LSNYC was founded in 1968 as part of the War on Poverty. What started as a loose confederation of neighborhood-based legal services programs has grown into the nation's largest civil legal services provider. Our citywide force of over 700 staff helps more than 108,000 low-income New Yorkers annually. For low-income New Yorkers facing a life crisis, legal help is often the most effective tool in resolving it. The need for free legal services is tremendous. More than 2 million city residents are currently living below the poverty line—a mere $32,000 for a family of four. They are often made more vulnerable by discrimination, immigration status, age, or disabilities. Our work makes tangible improvements in the lives of hundreds of thousands of these New Yorkers in need.
