A MESSAGE FROM Hunter's Run for Nimaga
Hello Everyone,
My name is Hunter Wanamaker, a senior at Vanderbilt University. This fall I am running the NYC marathon in memory of my friend Adam Nimaga. Adam lost his fight with mental illness last fall, leaving an unfillable void within my friend group and among the Vanderbilt community. His boundless energy, humor, enthusiasm, and deep love for his friends and his family left an indelible mark on every person who knew him. From club basketball, to his fraternity, to business organizations on campus, he truly made friends everywhere he went.
The NYC marathon falls, almost to the exact date, on the one-year anniversary of his passing. Thus, I am seeking to channel my community's love for Adam and our total commitment to fighting for mental health awareness and suicide prevention by partnering with the Release Recovery Foundation to fundraise for this profoundly important cause in the lead up to the marathon. The need to help those struggling cannot be understated. Among young men throughout the United States, many shoulder so much, but seem on the surface to be doing just fine. The Release Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to ensuring all who are ready and willing to seek professional treatment, are able. Through philanthropic scholarships, the Release Recovery Foundation pays for those seeking mental health treatment to receive the help they need. Substance Use Disorder and mental illness destroys the lives of too many people from underserved communities who may not have the resources for proven treatments, and the Release Foundation seeks to serve this critical gap. In 2024, RRF awarded over 105 potentially life-saving scholarships to individuals facing Substance Use Disorder and mental illness problems, who had no other means to access treatment. The average cost of a scholarship was $7500, so your donation goes directly to helping someone receive life-changing care.
To carry on Adam's legacy with every mile this year, and more importantly through the donations we can supply this cause, would mean so much to me, and my community. I would be so grateful for any possible contribution you can make, as Release Recovery works day-by-day to help those struggling to keep going!
