Running a marathon has always been one of those goals that felt just out of reach, something I'd admire from the sidelines (naturally with happy tears in my eyes for every runner out there) and tell myself I'd do "someday." This year, someday is November 1st.
But I didn't want to cross that finish line just for myself. I wanted it to mean something. So when I learned about Team for Kids, a nonprofit that brings free and low-cost running programs to kids in underserved communities across New York City, I knew immediately this was it.
I'm so lucky to have had the childhood that I did. A city that gave me everything, good schools, strong community, and access to movement that helped me figure out who I was. Not every kid gets that, and that gap has always felt wrong to me. TFK changes those odds, one mile at a time.
Because the world can be a scary place, especially when you're growing up and nothing makes sense yet. Having an outlet that's just yours changes everything, whether that's friendship, health, a talent you didn't know you had, or just a place to put it all down for a little while. That's why this matters so much to me.
Every dollar goes directly toward getting a kid into a TFK program. A $25 donation covers a full week of programming. $100 gets a child through an entire season. $500 changes a kid's year.
I'd be so grateful to have you in my corner, whether you can give $1, $10, or $1,000. And on November 1st, when my legs feel like concrete somewhere around mile 20, I'll be thinking of every single person who believed in this program (and in me, because 26.2 ain't for the weak).
Thank you for running this with me. 💚
