A MESSAGE FROM Erin Holzbaur’s Fundraising page
As a life-long runner from the New York area, the NYC Marathon has always been a bucket-list race. Since it’s such a special milestone, I knew I wanted to make it even more meaningful by running with Team Tell Every Amazing Lady.
I chose this organization to honor my incredible mother who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016.
My mother’s journey with ovarian cancer began when she chose to undergo genetic testing for the BRCA gene since the disease runs in our family. While my mom tested positive for the BRCA gene, everything changed when additional screening unexpectedly revealed she had stage four ovarian cancer. After intensive chemotherapy and surgery, she was thankfully declared cancer-free in November of 2016. Aware of the high-risk of reoccurrence and driven by an unshakable determination to beat the odds, she explored additional options and enrolled in a clinical trial at NYU’s Perlmutter Cancer Center for an ovarian cancer maintenance drug. The trial saw great success and ultimately got FDA approved, and now nearly nine years later my mom is still cancer-free.
I’m running to raise awareness and funds so more women and families can have the same hope, options, and outcomes we were so lucky to have.
Tell Every Amazing Lady® offers women’s health and wellness services, including public awareness and education of the signs, symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer, provide support to those impacted by the disease and raise critical funds for research in order to find a screening test and a cure.
Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated :)
