A MESSAGE FROM Kenisha McFadden
Thank you for your donation! Growing up, I never enjoyed running, whether it was in gym class or for sports conditioning; it just wasn't my thing and I was never good at it. However, over time, as I learned more about cardiovascular fitness through my Certified Personal Trainer certification, I realized that running was the most efficient way to improve my overall heart health. A couple of years ago, I started running on the treadmill at Orangetheory, but soon after, I wanted to transition to running outdoors. It felt liberated by a hobby that could last a lifetime. However, I noticed a lack of representation; rarely did I see another Black person running along the water in Long Island City. RIDC provides an opportunity to showcase that all individuals, especially people of color, can participate in this sport.
