A MESSAGE FROM Peter's NYC Marathon Fund Raising Page
It's hard to put into words how excited, honored, and motivated I am to run the 2024 NYC Marathon for Team First Candle to support its mission to end Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), while providing support for grieving families who have suffered a loss (https://firstcandle.org/).
On March 27, 1989, the Comes Family was forever changed when we lost my dear younger brother, Joseph Santino Comes, to SIDS when he was just 5 months old. This tragedy tested our family in many ways, but most of all it revealed the power of our faith in God and the strength of our supportive community of family and friends.
I will never forget being at my parents' side as a toddler attending many meetings of the Chicagoland Chapter of the SIDS Foundation. This foundation was critical in allowing time to heal us from this tragedy and we are forever grateful. Since Joseph left us, our family has experienced countless blessings including the addition of my brother, John Paul, who was born in 1990 and my five little nieces and nephews.
I always feel Joseph's presence when I'm in need of that extra push for life's important moments. I have no doubt that he will come down and carry me on his wings just when I need it over the course of those 26.2 miles!
What makes this even more special is that we will be celebrating Joseph's 36th Birthday on Race Day, November 3, 2024.
Your donations to First Candle are sincerely appreciated to support me in this cause that is so close to my heart.
