I’m planning to run the 2023 NYC Marathon (my first!) in support of Legal Services NYC (“LSNYC”) and my goal is to raise $130 for each mile I run. Your support, no matter the amount, would mean a lot.
I’m running this marathon to acknowledge the strength, mental clarity, and energy that running gives me. I’m also running because if you know me even a little, you know I love a challenge. The thought of running 26.2 miles right now is a little terrifying, but I’m excited to look that big, scary goal in the face on every training run. I am grateful that I get to to run in support of LSNYC’s mission to provide vital legal services to low-income New Yorkers for free.
LSNYC has been serving vulnerable New Yorkers since 1968 and demand for their services has recently surged. NYC’s new Right to Counsel program now guarantees that tenants facing eviction will have free representation and advice. LSNYC’s caseloads have increased in response, creating an urgent need for more resources so that LSNYC can meet this need and also continue to serve clients facing immigration, public benefits, healthcare, education, and economic security concerns. LSNYC pursues long-term campaigns to fight local racial, social, and economic justice while simultaneously standing at the ready to deploy hundreds of lawyers as needed to rapidly respond to the latest crisis.
Thank you in advance - please let me know if you’d like to chat more about LSNYC and hear why it's such a great organization to support. Or if you want to join me on a run!
Sincerely,
Suzi
