I was a Penn State student when I first met Emily and her parents, Kari and Tom, in 2010 when Emily was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at five years old. Emily is the first pediatric cancer patient in the world to receive CAR T-cell therapy, as that was her only chance for a cure and today, she is 11 years cancer free! Not only is Emily's story truly amazing, but so is her family's commitment to raise awareness and give back to others. I want to be able to contribute to those same efforts that help fund grants, medical programs, and research initiatives that are intended to expand on alternative treatments and therapies such as immunotherapy and to make those treatments accessible to everyone.
If you're interested and able to, please consider making a donation through the "Donate Today" green button above. To keep up to date on how your donation is making a difference, visit www.emilywhiteheadfoundation.org. Help me raise $3,500 as I train to run 26.2 miles! Any amount makes a difference! Our top donor will receive a signed copy of the Whitehead's book, Praying for Emily: The Faith, Science, and Miracles that Saved Our Daughter .
To learn more about Emily's story, I encourage you to take a few minutes to view Fire with Fire, a short documentary about her treatment by Oscar-winning director, Ross Kauffman.
Thank you for your time and consideration to help us activate the cure!
