A MESSAGE FROM Ian Pauley Runs NYC & Raises Awareness for Organ Donation
The Chris Klug Foundation has been a game changer for me. After battling with autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis for years, I received a life saving liver transplant a month after my 24th birthday. I was fortunate enough to be a candidate for live donation and my Aunt Dana was my perfect match. My family and friends were the absolute best support system I could have ever asked for. Im lucky to have a second wind and feel that it’s my responsibility to do as much with that second chance as possible.
After receiving the transplant, I initially went into denial and wanted to continue to live life as if nothing had changed. The pandemic highlighted quickly that life for me was not the same and made me realize how much I needed to find others who I could relate to from a health standpoint. And that's where The Chris Klug Foundation came into view. CKF has provided with some much need community and has been a major source of inspiration. My goal now is to be a role model for others in the transplant community by living an active and healthy life. I hope to inspire others who have received a transplant or will soon undergo a transplant and help show what’s possible (like running a marathon)!
I lived in Colorado for the last nine years and recently moved to NYC to be closer to family and friends. I’m enjoying exploring the city through running, eating lots of really good food and meeting new people. I'm also organizing a revamped version of a race that I put on in Colorado, New Liver New York (formerly LiverMan 100). We'll be walking and running 31 miles through the city to raise awareness for organ donation, while promoting the Chris Klug Foundation.
Running the NYC Marathon in 2024 was a life changing experience for me. Being able to do it alongside (well, an hour behind) my brother, Luke, who has supported me through all the ups and downs and while representing the Chris Klug Foundation was a dream come true. Let's run it back!
