A MESSAGE FROM Sam's Fundraising - NYC Marathon!
I'm excited to run and represent NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders). The Mission of NORD is to improve the health and well-being of people with rare diseases by driving advances in care, research, and policy. I'm excited to advocate for NORD and those with rare diseases in honor of my son, Evan, who passed in August 2021 from a rare disease called Menkes Disease. Evan's disease limited him in almost all aspects of his growth and development, but he continued to be a blessing and shining light in all those that knew him. Evan's prognosis was to only live to 3 years old, but he battled to almost 6 years of age. While his journey earth side may be over, we know that he is right where he is supposed to be and I'm honored along as his mom, Lauren, his little brother, Ryan, and the sister he never met, Annie, to continue to his legacy today.

I started running in 2018, as a non-runner, couch to 5k participant in order to escape and get away a bit as healthy outlet. That 5k program turned into a half marathon in the summer of 2018, followed by 2 more half marathons in 2019 and culminating into the New York City Marathon in the Fall 2019. This year, being 5 years since Evan left us and approaching my 40th birthday in December, I'm excited to lace up, hit the pavement and raise money in Evan's honor. What better way to serve than honor and help those that need it most.
