A MESSAGE FROM Running For All The Creatures
A year ago, I ushered my best friend, Lucca, into her new life. Having 14.5 years with my sidekick was such a gift, and the loss of her rocked me to the core. Months later, my beautiful Cunucu Mastiff Tembo passed away unexpectedly. The departure of these stunning creatures left me feeling helpless, and extremely lost. The journey to get to today has not been easy but it has me motivated to do more, both in the k9 world and in the animal world at large.
Six months ago, I made a choice to run the New York Marathon in honor of Lucca and Tembo as well as to celebrate my 40th birthday (on October 30th).
Sea turtles have always been special to me. I swam with them at a young age and often wished that in my next life, I could be one. They teach us about resilience, moving with the currents, and using the resources of our body (like a shell!) to live a full, beautiful existence.
I joined the New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC) team to raise money for the sea creatures. The NYMRC is a rescue and rehabilitation organization that promotes marine conservation. Their mission is to preserve and protect the marine environment through conservation efforts including rescue, rehabilitation, education and research.
My goal is two-fold: to raise $4,000 to mark my 40th year on this earth and to include an additional $1,600 to complete the total years we had Lucca and Tembo on this earth (Lu, 14.5 years; Temmy, 1.5 years). All proceeds go directly to NYMRC so letβs crush this goal and some! Will you "run" alongside me as a Woman of the Earth to celebrate our globe, its glorious resources, and all the majestic creatures we are lucky enough to live alongside of?!
In Gratitude to Mother Earth,
Kara
