I spend my days at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center looking at the details of human health. My research is focused on genetic variants with unknown phenotypes that leave so many families without answers. In the lab, I see the reality behind the statistics for the 1 in 10 Americans living with a rare disease. The "marathon" isn't a single day in November, it is the longer search for a diagnosis, a treatment, or a resource that simply doesn't exist yet.
Beyond my research in the lab, this opportunity was brought to my attention by my father who works at Goodwin Procter, introduced me to this specific opportunity with Team NORD. His firm works closely with the very life science companies and foundations seeking cures for these rare conditions. This further inspired my commitment to a community that sits at the very heart of both my studies and my family’s passion and patient supportive work.
Through my research, my eyes have been opened to the lack of awareness and the massive hurdles these families face, but my motivation to run the 2026 NYC Marathon with Team NORD isn't just professional, it's a kept promise.
One of the last conversations I had with my grandfather before he passed away was about my commitment to run my first half marathon in 2023. He always instilled in me the belief that I was just as capable and strong as anyone else. He was a constant source of support for my goals, and I promised him I wouldn't stop chasing my dreams.
