Running a marathon has been on my bucket list for a long
time, but what really makes it meaningful – and what will probably provide the
extra motivation I need to finish the last few miles -- is the fact that I will
be running to raise money for City Harvest.
City Harvest is one of the most important charitable
organizations in New York City. It
rescues millions of pounds of food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers
it free of charge to New Yorkers in need through mobile markets, food pantries
and other venues. On the heels of the pandemic
and with inflation at historic highs, food insecurity is a growing and
pervasive problem. Approximately 1.5
million New Yorkers – including 1 out of every 4 kids – don’t know where their
next meal is going to come from.
