A MESSAGE FROM Kelly's Fundraising Page
Hello and welcome! I'm glad you're here. I'm happy and proud to announce that I'll be running the TCS New York City Marathon with Team Make-A-Wish. I've been lucky to be involved with Make-A-Wish first as a Wish Granter, next as a member of New York's Young Professionals Program, and now as a runner on Team Make-A-Wish.
You: "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS???" Me: Thank you for asking with such gusto! My response: Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon once said: "If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon." For those of you who have watched or run a marathon previously, you'll remember the uplifting, soul-filling, tear-inducing experience of seeing all kinds of marathon participants come together - from runners (elite athletes, parents pushing strollers, someone who juggles all 26 miles (...how), people running their 10th or 30th marathons, ME, the list could go on) to volunteers and cheerleaders focused singularly on getting runners to reach their goal. After a brutal, lonely, sad year, I can't think of a better showing of joy and triumph than to run a marathon in my home city of NYC on its 50TH ANNIVERSARY no less, and moreover to run for a cause that brings so much hope and light to children and families. If you've made it this far, I can't adequately put into words how much I appreciate you reading this and considering donating to my fundraising efforts. I can promise you that what you donate is going to a truly incredible place that will create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses and their families. Now more than ever, hope is essential. I can also promise you that my thanks will show itself through many tears, smiles, and thoughts of you as I cross that finish line. Look at that, I'm already crying. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
To date, Make-A-Wish Metro and Western New York has granted over 15,000 wishes to children in the five boroughs of New York City, Nassau county and 17 counties in the Buffalo and Rochester areas! To learn more about Make-A-Wish's mission, visit our website at wish.org/newyork.
