Dear friends and family,
I am so excited to share that I will be running the NYC marathon alongside my dad to raise funds and awareness for osteoporosis and bone health! This cause is close to our hearts, and I invite you to join us in making a difference.
Did you know that osteoporosis affects an estimated 54 million Americans? This silent disease weakens bones and significantly increases the risk of fractures, particularly in older adults. In fact, 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men over the age of 50 will experience a fracture due to osteoporosis in their lifetime. But the good news is that with proper education, prevention strategies, and support, we can combat this condition and promote better bone health for everyone.
Throughout our training and on race day, we aim to bring greater visibility to the importance of maintaining strong bones through nutrition, exercise, and regular screenings. Here are some key facts about bone health and osteoporosis:
- Bone Density: Peak bone mass is typically reached in your late 20s, after which bone density begins to decline. It's crucial to build and maintain strong bones early in life.
- Nutrition: Calcium and vitamin D are vital for bone health. A balanced diet rich in these nutrients can help strengthen bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
- Exercise: Weight-bearing and strength-training exercises are effective in building and maintaining bone density.
- Risk Factors: Age, gender, family history, and lifestyle choices can all contribute to an individual's risk of developing osteoporosis.
By supporting our marathon initiative, you'll help fund crucial research, education, and resources aimed at improving bone health and fighting osteoporosis. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful impact and help us reach our goal.
Together, we can empower individuals to take charge of their bone health and prevent osteoporosis. Join us on this journey to raise awareness and funds for a healthier future!
Thank you for your support!
