A MESSAGE FROM Carolyn's NYC MarathonFundraising Page
I may be crazy to be doing another marathon. It will be my first one after having my two babies while working full-time and being a full-time student getting my doctorate in literacy. However, the Iris Fund is a local organization that I connect with in so many ways, and I want to support while running 26.2 miles in NYC.
Getting pregnant with Dylan was easy and it was an easy pregnancy, but with Camryn, it was much different. Camryn came into this world after two miscarriages and a very difficult pregnancy. Not only were we told to expect another miscarriage at 7 weeks, but we were also told she most likely had skeletal dysplasia, and I was monitored more than once a week for the majority of my pregnancy.
While I am very lucky to have two healthy, beautiful children, every woman has a unique journey to create a family, and often that journey comes with many ups and downs that are not talked about. Additionally, the medical community still does not have all the knowledge or understanding of why miscarriages happen, why some women cannot get pregnant, why some babies are born prematurely, or why some families experience a loss after twenty weeks.
I am raising money for the Iris Fund which supports "innovative research to define labor, how it occurs, and develop novel, safe, and effective therapies to prevent preterm birth. I'm running these streets and raising money for all my friends and family who have wanted a child of their own and couldn't, for those who have experienced miscarriages, and especially for those who have lost a baby due to preterm labor.
