A MESSAGE FROM Emily’s Fast Feet for Finley NY City Marathon
I run for Finley.
Our son Finley was a silly, joyful, healthy child.
When Finley was a baby, he loved running in the stroller being pushed by mommy and later running races holding on to his beloved teddy bear named “Teddy”. He loved eating sour cream with his potato chips, he loved taking trips to Disney World and Pennsylvania, and he loved making his family laugh.
He always wanted to be with his big brother Baton.
Finley enjoyed going to beach in the summer time and hearing his laughter from jumping the waves could be heard from miles away. But at 4-years-old, after a day of a typical cold-like symptoms, Finley unexpectedly never woke up from his afternoon nap. Our healthy, active boy suddenly was gone.
Soon after, we learned of the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood Foundation. The SUDC Foundation is the only organization worldwide whose purpose is to promote awareness, advocate research and support those affected by SUDC; a category of death in children between the ages of 1 and 18.
Being part of a community of others who understand your loss has been invaluable. The SUDC Foundation provides all services at no cost to the people it serves, including advocacy and medical research. Even though the SUDC is making progress, there are still no given answers as to why SUDC occurs.
In honor of Finley, I will be running the NYC Marathon and fundraising for the SUDC Foundation.
Thank you for honoring my son Finley and supporting the SUDC Foundation. Learn more about the SUDC Foundation at www.sudc.org
