A MESSAGE FROM Juan, to run for a worthy cause!
Just before turning 60 years old, I set out to run my first marathon race. Turns out, that year, I ran three!
Having accomplished that goal, I dreamed that one day, God willing, I would run the BIG one, the NYC Marathon!
Growing up in The City, running the New York City Marathon has been in my bucket list.
That dream became even more realistic as I had recently ran along the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Last year, in May, I ran The Brooklyn Half Marathon, and earlier this year, I ran the NYC Half!
Would I get to run The NYC Marathon, while still able, at the age of 65?
Well, I am thankful to say that I have been given the opportunity to fulfill that dream, to accomplish my biggest athletic aspiration.
I am thrilled to do so while raising funds to support the goals of the Allyson Whitney Foundation (AWF); an organization that is based in Sullivan County, where I have devoted my entire nephrology career.
I will be grateful if you would join me with your support as I run the 26.2 miles.
AWF provides 'Life Interrupted Grants' to young adult patients diagnosed with cancers, to ease their financial burden, so they can concentrate on healing. Let's shine a light on the word "rare" in cancers. The organization is volunteer based, and we are passionate about what we do.
