A MESSAGE FROM Grace
My life changed on August 3rd, 2022, when I called my mom and asked for help. I was suffering from alcoholism in silence for far too long and finally decided I could not live like that anymore. I am running to support those who cannot afford the treatment I was blessed with but also to honor my personal sobriety journey. I am running the New York City Marathon for all those who can't, but especially for the girl that I was before August 3rd, 2022.
I AM RUNNING ....For the girl who did not recognize herself when she looked in the mirror. For the girl who used alcohol as a crutch. For the girl who had bedridden anxiety every weekend. For the girl who thought being drunk was her whole personality. For the girl who only cared about what others thought of her.For the girl who judged people who didn’t drink. For the girl that beat herself up for making any mistake. To make that girl proud.
Your donation gives me a chance to give back and to make that girl proud.
Since September 2022, I've been sharing about my sobriety journey publicly because I saw a lack of young women talking about their recovery online. It hit me hard that there is still such a stigma around alcoholism and prevalent stereotypes about alcoholics. I want to be a part of the change! I am sparking conversations about the healing journey one goes through when overcoming addiction and debunking the myth that a sober life is boring. I just celebrated 2 years sober this year and am living a life beyond my wildest dreams because of the treatment I was fortunate enough to receive.
