A MESSAGE FROM Jennifer
On Sunday, March 20, I will be running the United Airlines NYC Half in support of the Children's Brain Tumor Project Foundation. Your donation directly supports the research underway at Weill Cornell Medicine, and I am so proud to say that TeamJoey has been raising money for this amazing project for almost 5 years now. This project is powered by families who have been directly impacted by pediatric brain cancer and we all advocate and fundraise so we can see a cure in this lifetime.
My beautiful son Joey was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme on December 19, 2014. He was 7 1/2 years old and he had his whole life in front of him. We were in total shock and didnβt even know what any of the doctors were saying on that day because you never think in your wildest dreams it could happen to your child.
I remember thinking the whole time he was battling this horrific cancer that it was so unfair that these kids were being given only months to live because there werenβt any options for a βcureβ. How was I supposed to save my sonβs life if the doctors couldnβt?? I didnβt want my son to go through this, I didnβt want our family to go through this, and I knew I didnβt want other families to go through this hell that is pediatric brain cancer. Joey always had a smile on his face and never face up hope. He is and always will be my heroβ€οΈ
On February 7, 2016 I watched my perfect, blue eyed, 8 year old little boy take his last breath and become an Angel in Heaven. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be his mommy and I promised him I would always fight for a cureπ
My goal for this half marathon is to raise $8,500β¦..for the 8 1/2 years Joey was here with us. Every fundraiser that I have been a part of has surpassed the goals I set so I know in my heart I can do this!!
Thank you for reading my story, for sharing Joeyβs story and for always supporting TeamJoey and the Lab at Weill Cornell.
