Monday morning March 9, 2020 I received an unexpected call
from school while I stood at work.
“Jack has had a seizure”
I was sure they had the wrong kid… ‘Jack doesn’t have
seizures,’ I thought.
While the next week would see worldwide shutdowns due to
COVID-19, and play out as the craziest times of everyone’s lives, March of 2020
holds an extra significance in our family.
After scans, bloodwork, and a very telling EEG, Jack was diagnosed
with Epilepsy that next morning.
At 14, Jack had just finished taking his drivers education class
and was looking forward to a drivers permit in June… what did this mean for
that?
Jack’s primary joy in life comes from playing quarterback (at
that time for the JV football team) … what did this mean for that?
We live by the beach, and love the water… what does this
mean?
School? Work? College? Life?? So many questions!!!!
We have since learned so very much. Thanks to amazing
research, innovation, new medications, there is very little that Jack (and
others) cannot do.
I am raising money to support the Epilepsy Foundation of New
York and run in this fall’s NYC Marathon.
In the fall of 2019 I ran those same streets. Jack
accompanied me to New York on that trip and we had the most amazing and
unforgettable weekend. This fall I look forward to spending another weekend
with Jack running to support him, and every other special soul we have come to
know who are part of this special club!
