A MESSAGE FROM Mark's Fundraising Page - Saving Mothers
Dear Friends and Family,
I'm excited to share that I'll be running the New York City Marathon this year on November 3rd! I am running to support a non-profit organization called Saving Mothers. I have chosen this cause because in 2021, when my wife was pregnant with our daughter, she developed a rare condition, called Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy, or ICP, which affects just 1 in 1000 women in the USA. This caused other health complications for my wife and is life threatening to babies in utero.
Fortunately, my wife was able to receive excellent pre-natal care in NYC and able to have a successful pregnancy and birth of our daughter, Layla. She is at high risk again for this condition and in all subsequent pregnancies. However, many women across the globe are not as fortunate to receive proper pre-natal and maternal care.
Unfortunately, the maternal and neo natal death rates across the world are not improving, especially in developing nations. However, Saving Mothers is dedicated to providing maternal health education and medical support to women in these developing countries, where maternal mortality rates are alarmingly high.
