A MESSAGE FROM Tara is Running for All Fellow Cranio-Warriors
Surprise, surprise. I'm running with Team RAWF in the 2024 NYC United Airlines Half Marathon! I didn't think I could do this after a recent injury, but running has been my saving grace throughout most of my life - and especially, through my brain tumor recovery. Even while doing radiation treatment in Boston in the ice cold winter JUST two years ago, I had set a goal to run along the Charles River - and, I was thrilled to be physically-able to accomplish that, and get back to running outdoors.
Yes, in recent years, I had ONLY been running ON A TREADMILL - even for virtual races. So, this will be my first in-person event since college. Yes, it's a big leap for me, especially coming off the injury - but, those who know me, know that little will hold me back once I set my mind on something. And, THIS is for such a worthy cause!!!
Indeed, RAWF does so much to raise awareness and advocate for patients with hypothalamic-pituitary tumors. These rare, underfunded tumors are often survivable, but leave patients - and survivors like me - with life-altering and long-term side effects. RAWF strives to help improve our lives in so many impactful ways. Yes, it's certainly a worthy cause to support - and, I am running for EACH AND EVERY ONE of my fellow cranio-warriors.
RAWF's team members are looking to fundraise a minimum of $1,500, each. Yes, that's another big leap for me - and, EVERY DONATION can help make a difference and is tremendously appreciated. I humbly invite you to support team RAWF by making a donation today. And, yes, I greatly appreciate the cheering squads, from wherever you are. Much gratitude & love, T
(Tara is a brain tumor survivor, living in Vermont - and dependent on neuroendocrine drugs. She was diagnosed with a Craniopharyngioma in 01/21 - at the height of the pandemic quarantine; had undergone a craniotomy for a partial resection in 02/21; received novel, targeted oral therapy for 6 months, requiring monthly medical appointments at Mass General in Boston - and was inspired by seeing runners along Charles River, every trip. She completed 6 weeks of radiation treatment in Boston from 01/22 - and finally ran across the Charles in her last weeks there. She is now 2 years out of treatment - and is immensely grateful to continue to have stable MRIs.)
