A MESSAGE FROM Platt Family Fundraising Page
I believe in our mission of fueling RESEARCH, FAMILY SUPPORT, AND PROGRESS TOWARDS TREATMENT. I am a Firefighter for a major city in Arizona. I understand the impact you can have when you work as a team. Dravet Syndrome is bigger than me and I know I cannot fight it alone. But most of all, the reason I want to be part of DSF team is to run for my daughter Millie.
Millie is two years old and had her first seizure at two months old. She was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome when she was about ten months old. The past two years have been incredibly difficult for our family, but we have felt so much love and support from the epilepsy community. Through failed meds, more trips to the ED than we can count, overnight stays, and regressions, we have been lifted up and held by our community.
Millie is currently enrolled in a gene therapy trial and has said her first word this past week, "hi." It was a long and difficult journey to get where we are now and I know it's not over yet. I hope my efforts can continue to make a difference in Millie's life and make a difference in all those who are affected by Dravet syndrome and their families.
I hope to wave and say "hi" to Millie as I run in honor of her journey and everyone on this journey with us. I hope to raise awareness and bring hope that we aren't alone in this, we fight together.
