Counting down the days
Last weekend, I ran 10 miles and the weather was absolutely beautiful!! I LOVED the sunshine, light breeze and seeing the beautiful trees changing colors. It was a great way to wrap up my last long run before the big race on Sunday!

Training in Berlin, Germany!
I attended the World Health Summit, and had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion on access to gene therapy and delivery of care. The 6 hour time difference was tough, I felt the jet lag. But I still made time to get my training runs in. I'm now 17 day out and every run counts!

I ran 24 Miles on Saturday!
So, the weather was MUCH better than my previous long run... sunny, with a nice cool breeze. Admittedly, running that long of a distance is a bit tough. Aside from the obvious physical exertion, its very much a solo sport and requires alot of self determination. I am not complaining though! I feel VERY thankful for the support of my friends and family, and thankful for my good health. I know there are some people who live in pain, and even walking across the room is a challenge. So whenever I feel any doubt creep in, I remind myself that its a blessing to be exhausted because I CHOSE to run. #Thankful

I ran 22 miles in the freezing rain!
Sooooo Saturday was a very, very long and cold run. I have to say, it was the hardest run so far in my training- not because of the distance, but because of the rain, winds and cold weather. I feel proud of myself for finishing this training run. I really did NOT want to run in the cold but I made a commitment to the EWF and I'm determined to do my part! #TeamEWF

18 mile run!
On Saturday, I ran a very hard and slow 18 miles as a part of my training program. I was exhausted afterwards, but it felt good to get the miles in too! Also, the beautiful views on the trail helped; I uploaded one of my favorites which shows the Alexandria marina.

Hydrating on these early morning runs...
This has been a pretty hot summer, and I've been drinking ALOT of water to stay hydrated. This camelbak has become my favorite asset on my runs... I also pack snacks on my long runs :)

Baby Yoda Band-Aids to the Rescue!
Today I ran a slow, but steady, 7 miles. I have an 18 mile run coming up on Saturday- so these midweek runs help me prep for the much longer hauls. Unfortunately, I took a bit of a tumble last week so my knee is still a little sore. But I'm thankful I finally have an excuse to use my cute baby Yoda band-aids! And yessss, I know his name is Grogu, but I like baby Yoda better :)

Running my 12th Marathon!
This is the start of week 9 of my marathon training! I started running when I moved to Washington, DC as a way of decompressing from a rigorous schedule of working on Capitol Hill. Since my first full marathon in 2008, I have dreamt of running the New York City Marathon.
On Sunday, November 5, I will run the TCS Marathon as a part of the team representing the Emily Whitehead Foundation (EWF). Who is Emily Whitehead?? Emily is the first child in the world to have her immune cells activated to fight cancer. This innovative approach to treating cancer is called CAR T-cell therapy. As a result of the work of a team of researchers and physicians, Emily is more than ten years cancer-free!
Now you may be asking, what is CAR-T? Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR T-cell therapy) is a treatment approach that modifies T cells, a type of immune system cell, so that they can recognize and kill cancer cells. There are currently six FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapies with others being researched.
I’m excited to combine my love of running with my passion for better health outcomes for pediatric cancer patients. A donation of any amount will make a difference and will directly support the efforts of the Emily Whitehead Foundation.
