A MESSAGE FROM Chris Zapple’s NYC Marathon for Team CKF

I am excited to say I am running this year’s NYC Marathon for the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF)! 

My inspiration for running with team CKF is my brother-in-law, Nick. In 2024, Nick was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and listed for a liver transplant within 6 months. Fortunately, Nick was matched with a selfless living donor, successfully received a new liver in May 2025, and has been thriving ever since. While Nick’s story is miraculous, I’ve come to understand the rareness of this good fortune and how many recipients do not have a straightforward path to transplant.

This is why I am proud to represent CKF, which works to eliminate the wait for a transplant by inspiring and educating individuals to register as organ donors. Over 103,000 individuals in the US are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. They need us to register as organ donors. Unfortunately, while 93% of Americans claim to support organ, eye, and tissue donation, only 44% register to donate. I hope that by running the marathon, I can shine a light on how vital it is to say yes!
