I’m running the New York City Marathon this year in memory of my dad and in honor of my mom. To help fund my entry, I’m raising money for Team for Kids, an organization that provides free running and fitness programs to schools in underserved communities.
Around October of last year When I first made the decision that I wanted to sign up, I was talking to my dad about my training. He told me that running a marathon had always been a dream of his. But after tearing both Achilles tendons and breaking both ankles in his 30s, he never got the chance. I told him I’d do it for both of us.
Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in January of this year. Now, this race means even more. I’ll be thinking of him every step of the way.
Additionally, I chose Team for Kids because my mom was an early childhood social worker in Spanish Harlem. She dedicated her life to helping young kids get the support they needed. This organization helps kids build confidence, motivation, and a lifelong love for movement. I know it’s something she'll be proud to see me supporting.
If you’re able to donate, share, or just send some encouragement, I’d really appreciate it.
