SB is a neural tube defect (NTD) and are conditions of the brain, spine, and spinal cord. SB can happen anywhere along the spine if the neural tube does not close, which causes the backbone that protects the spinal cord to not form and close as it should.
There are three main types of SB which characterize the type of opening and the status of the nerves at those openings. SB occulta is the mildest form, and myelomeningocele is the most severe.
Our son, Christian, was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele and Hydrocephalus.
Please join our team as I run for Christian and all NYS SB warriors! Your contribution helps support programs, case management, research, education, and awareness for the Spina Bifida community and we are grateful for your support!
