This November I’m running the New York City Marathon with team Answer the Call. They do amazing work as the benevolent fund for NY first responder families. As recipients of the Sacramento Area Local 522 Fire Fighters Widows and Orphans Fund, I understand how important Answer the Call’s mission is to the families they serve. In December 2010 my world turned upside down when my Dad died in the line of duty. My Dad loved his job as a Captain for the City of Sacramento Fire Department. If you knew him, you knew he absolutely loved the job, the people he worked with, and the community he served. I miss him everyday and appreciate the fire family making sure he is never forgotten. The benevolent fund has consistently kept in touch and supported us for over 15 years. My family is forever grateful for their never ending support.
Answer the Call is the NY Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund that provides critical support for families who have had a first responder killed in the line of duty. They honor these fallen heroes by providing financial support to families immediately after the loss of their loved one. Answer the Call also hosts special events and network support for their families to connect them with others who have been through a similar experience. This organizations generous allocation of funds and resources aids families in their darkest hour.
The fire family is truly something special and it is an honor to be a part of Team Answer the Call. Please consider donating to my race so this worthy charity can continue making a difference!
