GROW Healthy Kids is changing the lives of elementary students in powerful, tangible ways. They provide proper athletic shoes, create run clubs, supply recess kits, and connect children with mentors and service workers. Most importantly, they give kids something many of them are missing: a healthy outlet, a sense of belonging, and the chance to discover their own strengths… their own “superpowers.”
This cause is deeply personal to me.
Five years ago this October, I lost my brother. Just a few weeks after that anniversary, I’ll be running this marathon with him in my heart every step of the way. His story is a big part of why I do what I do today as an elementary principal, and why this mission matters so much.
Growing up, my brother struggled in school. He wasn’t the kind of kid who could sit still or fit neatly into the traditional mold. He needed movement, breaks, and an outlet, but those needs weren’t always understood or supported. Over time, that lack of connection created challenges that followed him, even though he was incredibly smart and graduated with honors. What he never fully found was a true sense of belonging or purpose.
That’s why this work matters.
Every child deserves to feel seen. Every child deserves an outlet. Every child deserves the chance to discover who they are and what they’re capable of.
By supporting GROW Healthy Kids, we can bring these opportunities to students right here in Volusia County, giving them the tools, support, and encouragement to grow into confident, healthy individuals who know their worth.
I’m running this race to help ensure that no child has to question their value or their purpose!
If you feel moved to support this mission, any donation, big or small, will make a difference. And if you’re not able to give, sharing this message would mean just as much.
Thank you for being part of something bigger than a race. Together, we can help our local children find their strength, their purpose, and their future.
With gratitude,
Alexis
