A MESSAGE FROM Aaricka Runs NYC
Running has always been a part of who I am.
Even though I’ve been running since middle school and high school as a cross country and track and field athlete, I didn’t run my first marathon until 2023. That’s when I discovered that I’m really in this journey for a lifetime. Running makes me feel alive. It’s how I take care of my mind, body, and spirit. I love the way it pushes me to look good, feel good, and be good.
And truthfully, it’s also been a lifeline.
As someone who has experienced depression, running has brought me back to myself more times than I can count. It’s been a part of my therapy, my release and my way forward.
Now, I’m taking on my fourth marathon and my second World Major: the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon.
I fell in love with NYC while living out there during my time in grad school at Columbia University.
Coming back to run through the same streets that shaped me to being the woman I am today is a full-circle moment for me.
This is my comeback tour.
I am never run alone when I run. I carry my ancestors on my back, especially my grandmother.
I run for my grandmother Ruth Wilson, who began losing her ability to walk around my age. She was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and spent much of her life in pain and in a wheelchair. She passed away two years ago, but her strength stays with me every step I take.
I run for her.
Every mile I run is a reminder that movement is a gift.
This year, I’m proud to run with the City Parks Foundation.
They provide free sports programs like tennis, track & field, soccer, golf, and fitness to over 7,000 kids across New York City’s five boroughs, along with programming for seniors to stay active and healthy.
As someone who grew up playing in parks, I know firsthand how powerful those spaces are. Parks are places where confidence is built, community is created and lives are changed.
While I’m running 26.2 miles through New York City, I’ll be passing through many of these very parks.
And with your support, we can make sure they stay active, accessible and full of opportunity for the next generation.
I’m raising $5,000 to support these programs.
Every dollar helps:
A child gain access to free sports and mentorship.
A community stay active and connected
A park remain a safe, vibrant space.
If running has taught me anything, it’s that small steps add up to something powerful.
If you’ve ever believed in the power of movement, healing, or community, I’m asking you to support this journey.
