A MESSAGE FROM LET'S DO THIS THING! Mike Morra's NY Marathon Fundraiser For The Ali Forney Center
Friends & Family - I'm thrilled to share I'll be running the New York Marathon this year as part of The Ali Forney Center team, in support of the organization's mission of protecting homeless LGBTQIA+ youth from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to be independent.
LGBTQIA+ youth are disproportionately kicked out of their homes or forced to run away. And, arguably, now more than ever, LGBTQIA+ youth need our support.
If unfamiliar, meet The Ali Forney Center:
The Ali Forney Center (AFC) is the nation's largest homeless LGBTQIA+ youth services provider.
AFC not only provides food, water, and shelter for LGBTQIA+ homeless youth (through the likes of the organization's Emergency Housing Program and Trans-Specific Housing Program), but aims to transform the lives of these young people so that they may reclaim their lives ahead and never live on the streets again.
Some of AFC's services include an always-open (24/7 - 365) "drop-in" center providing critical access to food, medical & mental health services - like HIV testing & psychiatric evaluation - as well as job readiness & educational support. In addition, AFC runs a Street Outreach Team, educating teens about safe sex and HIV prevention.
